Brief Brainstorming

    For the first part of my foundation portfolio, I am torn between two options. I've narrowed them down to a coming-of-age film opening, or an art lookbook.

    The coming-of-age film introduction came to me as I was reflecting on what genre of movie I enjoy most. This genre stood out to me for the fun, lighthearted, and upbeat vibe they encourage onto the viewers, even in just a short trailer. A specific element I love about this genre are the "getting-ready" sequences and character montages which are often included, like in Freaky Friday and The Devil Wears Prada. I feel like it would be so fun to film one of these that are personal to me, with even maybe one of my favorite songs playing in the background. I've always wanted to be in a movie, and this is a chance for me feel as if I am, which is why this option attracts my attention. 

    Despite this, doing an art lookbook would also be very fun. I love to draw and create, and doing a magazine is a great way to entertain my passion. However, if I were to lean into this option, I would want my artwork to be digital instead of traditional--which is the way I'm most used to drawing--for a crisper look. I don't have much experience with drawing digital. Due to this, I'm resonating more with the film opening choice.

Stranger Things: Editing Case Study

  Today, I'm doing a case study on my latest obsession: Stranger Things! Even in just the opening sequence, the show is able to instill fear, worry, and anticipation within the audience. The preliminary scenes do a great job at setting the tone for the rest of the season, with certain cuts and shots particularly helping do this. In this blog post, I will be analyzing the editing techniques used in beginning of Season 1, Episode 1 of Stranger Things. This scene is showed in the first seconds of the episode. The camera tilts down to show this laboratory, which looks slightly mysterious. This is known as an establishing shot. It introduces the location where a scene will take place. The dim lighting, ambient nature noises, and fact that it's nighttime help set a foreboding mood, painting this building in an eerie light. This alludes to the action that's yet to come. Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog! Today, I'll be creating a moodboard for my future film. I'll be trying to capture the vibe of each of my characters--such as their choices of clothing, aesthetic, makeup style, designated color scheme, and others--in each moodboard I make. This way, you can get a feel for how the protagonists look and potentially act. But, before diving into things, let me give you a refresher of my film's plot: "A bubbly highschooler makes it her mission to get the school's notoriously gloomy loner to crack a smile.
