Filming Redirection

In my last post, I'd mentioned wanting to film a good portion of my movie opening at school. It was supposed to show my two protagonists bumping into eachother in the hallway. However, I've decided to scrap this idea. This is because my co-star Lihi and I don't have any classes together, inclduing study hall. This prohibits us from meeting up and filming in school. Passing period is also way too hectic to film during!

Therefore, for practicality reasons, I'm not going to film at school. I initially viewed this as a bummer because a lot of coming-of-age films take place in school, especially highschool. But, I realized my film opening is still centered around highschool characters, making this not much of a loss. Also, my movie opening doesn't have to be filmed in school to be engaging. Filming during school can be chaotic, so it might actually be better to stick to the places I have, which are my house and Lihi's house.

Because of this change in plans, I'll need to adjust my script around this shift in set. You can expect a post about me finishing my script coming soon. Until then, I'll be brainstorming!

Stranger Things: Editing Case Study

  Today, I'm doing a case study on my latest obsession: Stranger Things! Even in just the opening sequence, the show is able to instill fear, worry, and anticipation within the audience. The preliminary scenes do a great job at setting the tone for the rest of the season, with certain cuts and shots particularly helping do this. In this blog post, I will be analyzing the editing techniques used in beginning of Season 1, Episode 1 of Stranger Things. This scene is showed in the first seconds of the episode. The camera tilts down to show this laboratory, which looks slightly mysterious. This is known as an establishing shot. It introduces the location where a scene will take place. The dim lighting, ambient nature noises, and fact that it's nighttime help set a foreboding mood, painting this building in an eerie light. This alludes to the action that's yet to come. Mood Boards!

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my blog! Today, I'll be creating a moodboard for my future film. I'll be trying to capture the vibe of each of my characters--such as their choices of clothing, aesthetic, makeup style, designated color scheme, and others--in each moodboard I make. This way, you can get a feel for how the protagonists look and potentially act.
